Facebook announces plan to launch dating service

Facebook  founder,  Mark Zuckerberg  announced on Tuesday that the world’s largest social network will soon include a new dating feature vowing to make privacy protection its top priority in the wake of the  Cambridge Analytica  scandal.   Zuckerberg unveiled the plans as he addressed Facebook’s annual developers conference in San Jose, California emphasizing that the focus would be on helping people find long-term partners. “ This is going to be for building real, long-term relationships, not just hook-ups”. He said in presenting the new feature, noting that one in three marriages in the United States start online and that some 200 million Facebook users identify as being single. Under the new feature, users will be able to create a separate “dating” profile not visible to their network of friends, with potential matches recommended based on dating preferences, points in common, and mutual acquaintances.   Zuckerberg did not specify whether the feature would be fr

Policemen on illegal duty shoot two wedding guest in Imo State

There was pandemonium in Anara, in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State on Sunday as two policemen allegedly shot two persons during a traditional wedding.   According to a report by Punch, guests were made to abandon the ceremony and run for dear lives as two policemen, whose identities had yet to be ascertained were said to have escorted two prominent persons to the event.   The trigger-happy policemen were whisked away by members of the bride’s family who prevented a mob from attacking them. The policemen, who were said to be at large, did not get the approval of the state Commissioner of Police to be at the occasion.   A witness, who identified himself only as Ugo, said the cops had first shot into the air before mistakenly firing at guests.  He said,  “the policemen were shooting into the air to impress their bosses, who were spraying money at the party. FEDERAL HEALTH WORKERS EMBARKS ON INFINITE STRIKE TODAY

Federal health workers under the aegis of the Joint Health Sector Unions says it will embark on an indefinite strike following the failure of the Federal Government to implement the agreement it reached with health workers last year.   JOHESU said this in a statement signed by its National Chairman, Biobelemoye Josiah; and its National Secretary, Florence Ekpebor, on Monday.  The union recalled that it called off its nationwide strike on September 30, 2017 after signing the memorandum of terms of settlement which was to be implemented within five weeks after the date of suspension of the strike.   It noted that its main demands included an upward review of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure, employment of additional health workers, the implementation of court judgments and the upward review of the retirement age from 60 to 65.   JOHESU said it continued to remind the Federal Government of its promise and even gave a 30-day ultimatum which is expected to lapse on

The Federal high court, Abuja, has asked Senator Enyinaya Abaribe and two others to produce leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu in court for the next hearing of his treason case on June 26th 2018 or face jail term. Recall that Abaribe, Immanuel El-Shalom, a Jewish high priest, and Tochukwu Uchendu, a chartered accountant, stood surety for Kanu when he was granted bail on April 27th last year after spending over a year in detention. Kanu has however gone underground after the military invasion of his home in Abia state in September last year. At the resumed hearing of Kanu's treason case yesterday March 28th, Justice Binta Nyako told counsel to the senator and the two others to either produce Kanu in court during the next hearing or forfeit their N100 million bail bond issued when he was grnted bail or go to jail.  Kanu is facing a four-count amended charge preferred against him and four others, whose trial had since been separated from his. Ab

A former governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta State, Sunny Onuesoke, has said the All Progressives Congress will collapse before the 2019 general elections. Onuesoke dared the ruling party to conduct a national convention to elect new executives. This was contained in a statement on Wednesday in his reaction to the call by the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, for the deregistration of the PDP. Onuesoke said, “I am not surprised that such a call is coming from the now infamous Minister of Information, whose name is now synonymous with propaganda.
